HOW TO CREATE A NEW ENTRY

In order to keep the Opera Schedule Database consistent and correct, please read this page before adding a new entry!

If you have information which you think is worth sharing with others, you can easily add it to the database by filling out the form provided.

Before you try to add an entry, you should make sure that it is not yet in the database. In this way you can save needless effort and you can avoid duplication in the database. (The database software is not clever enough to recognize and reject double entries in all cases. Sorry.)

You must be very careful to type all names with their CORRECT SPELLING; otherwise the browser will not find the specific item in the database. You can use both upper case and lower case letters, as searches are case insensitive. Please, NEVER USE special characters (e.g. accents) which are outside the standard printable ASCII set! (32-127)

Some of the fields must always be filled in (their name are in bold), and some of them are optional.

Here are the rules for the different fields:

City
Must be provided. Please give the English name of the city. (For example, you should write Vienna rather than Wien.)

Company
Optional. If the name of the city is not enough for an unambiguous reference, you can give the company, always with its full, commonly used name. (For example, instead of Met you should write Metropolitan.)

Date
Must be given. You can enter more than one day, separated by spaces or commas. The month number and the last two digits of the year are required.

Composer
Optional. Type the name as it is customarily spelled in English. (You can give the name of the composer in several ways: e.g. Giuseppe Verdi or Verdi, Giuseppe or G. Verdi, or simply Verdi) You may list up to three composers for a specific performance, or you can use the space to write the same name in different languages (though I don't recommend the latter.)

Title
Must be given. Give the title of the piece in its original language or, in exotic cases, in English (e.g. instead of Hungarian "A Kekszakallu Herceg Vara", type "Bluebeard's Castle" :-) ). If there is more than one commonly used title, you can give them all (up to three). If it is a special performance, let's say a gala or concert, name it!

Artist
Rules for giving artist names are the same as those for composer names (see above). You can list a maximum of 10 names.

Additional information
Optional. In this field you may give additional information about the specific event, e.g. booking information, notes, etc.

E-Mail
Optional. With your E-Mail address you can help others to get in contact with you for more detailed information.

Identifier
Optional. Here you can type a string (max. of 10 chars) which will be associated with the above data but will never appear on any of the pages. If you give an identifier, it will be queried if somebody tries to delete the entry from the database.
